The Assisted Living Worker assists residents with mental and physical disabilities to live successfully in the community by providing a variety of day-to-day physical, emotional, and social supports, life skills assistance, information, resources, and demonstrations, in accordance with pre-established care schedules. This position is responsible for administering medication to residents in accordance with established policy and maintaining related client/resident records and documentation
Qualifications & Skills:
The candidate must have a certificate from a recognized institution, from any of the following programs: Community Mental Health Worker (minimum 120 hours) or Community Support Worker: Special Needs Assistant or Health Care Support Worker or Community Support Worker: Assisted Living programs. An equivalent combination of education and experience in mental health may also be considered. Current First Aid and CPR certification are required.
The candidate must be able to:
-communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing
-take initiative and work with minimal amount of supervision
-work with, and empathize with people suffering from abuse, poverty, family violence, cross-cultural issues, addictions, AIDS, and other life-limiting illnesses, mental illness, the grief process, and the impacts of colonization and assimilation on Canadian First Nations and Métis people
-understand the development of lifestyle planning (ADL skills) and reintegration into a community setting
-understand mental illness and its subsequent stigma.
Non Violent Crisis Intervention Training, Food Safe I and a Class 4 BC Driver’s license would be an asset.
