
Child and Youth Care Worker
JOB SUMMARY:
The Child and Youth Worker facilitate a safe and supportive environment for children (aged 0 – 18 years old) and mothers by assessing and reporting child welfare concerns to the Coordinator and/or Assistant Coordinator and the appropriate authorities. This position provides supportive counseling, advocacy and security to youth, children and women. The Child and Youth Worker develops appropriate outings and activities for children and youth and women residing in the Women’s and Children’s Programs.
- Completion of a Child and Youth Care certificate or a diploma at accredited educational institute.
- 1 year of direct work recent experience related to children, youth, and parenting.
- Minimum three months of direct work experience with in a residential setting.
- An equivalent combination of training and work experience will also be considered.
- Current First Aid/CPR Certificates for adults and infants is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Knowledge of abuse, poverty, family violence, cross-cultural issues, addictions, AIDS, and other life-limiting illnesses, mental illness, and the grief process.
- Knowledge of child welfare/protection issues.
- Ability to implement programs for children and youth.
- Act as role model for healthy attitudes and positive relationships
- Knowledge of supportive counseling, conflict resolution or other related field.
