As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Senior Mental Health Worker/Care Aide provides supervision to MHW/Care Aides; assists residents with mental and physical disabilities to live successfully in the community by providing a variety of day-to-day physical, emotional, and social supports, life skills assistance, information, and resources in accordance with service/care plans; participates in service/care planning, including input into residents’ psychosocial and general health and activity needs

Qualifications & Skills: 

·         Health Care Support Worker (combined Community Mental Health Worker Resident Care Aide Attendant) Certificate from a recognized institution or Resident Care Aide Attendant Certificate supplemented with training and experience in mental health work or an equivalent combination of education and experience in mental health support and resident care.

·         Two years recent supervisory experience.

·         Current First Aid/CPR Certificates required.

·         Knowledge of mental health recovery principles and approaches to care.

·         Ability to supervise.

·         Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing.

·         Ability to operate related equipment. Knowledge of computer programs including MS windows environment, MS Outlook, and Word.

·         Ability to assist in developing, implementing and evaluating programs. 

·         Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate care, and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members in care planning. 

·         Ability to work independently and professionally. 

§         Ability to foster a working environment of collaboration, skill, collegiality, and enthusiasm.

·         Demonstrable understanding of mental illness and subsequent stigma.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position such as capabilities which are compatible with walking, stopping, bending, and lifting heavy residents using effective and safe body mechanics
