Thank you for your interest in St. James Community Service Society and the social and health issues that impact Vancouver and individual neighbourhoods like the Downtown Eastside. On this page, you will find a variety of information about our Society, the work we do, and the challenges we address.

For enquiries about interviews, visits, or tours of the Downtown Eastside, please contact Jonathan Oldman, Executive Director. If you produce or publish information about St. James Community Service Society, we would appreciate being sent a copy or link/reference. Thank you.

You can also find out more about what is going on in the wider community at the Downtown Eastside-Connect media centre open at Woodward’s from 8:30am till 5:00pm daily for the month of February.  The centre is an opportunity for the media and the general public to find out about the creative things that are going on in the community to help improve the lives of people in this neighbourhood.

Media Tours

We are available to take visiting media on a tour of our local neighbourhood. Headquartered in the historic and once vibrant Japantown district, St. James Community Service Society sits at the crossroads of some of the many forces at work in the Downtown Eastside today; gentrifying and expanding Gastown to the west, the open street scene at Oppenheimer Park to the east, Chinatown to the south, and the industrial/green business zone to the north.

Please contact Jonathan Oldman, Executive Director, to set up media tours.
