February 12th 2008 - St. James Community Service Society Appoints New Executive Director

The Board of St James Community Service Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Jonathan Oldman, BA, MA as Executive Director of the Society

Jonathan has over 15 years experience working in health and social services, both in the not-for-profit and public sectors. After graduating from the UK National Health Service management training program, Jonathan worked in a variety of acute and community health services in London, England before coming to Vancouver in 1997 to join the Canadian Mental Health Association, Vancouver – Burnaby Branch. In 2000 Jonathan became Executive Director of the agency. Jonathan has a master’s degree in Leadership & Training from Royal Roads University and in recent years he has sat on a several community Boards and policy advisory committees.

St. James Community Service Society is a grassroots organization with more than 40 years of experience building community in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. We strive to provide support for people who face multiple challenges in life. The Society recognizes that the measure of our success lies in our ability to help each individual whom we serve to recognize his or her own value and worth as a person. The Society is one of the largest not-for-profit social and healthcare service providers in Vancouver and provides a range of services, including:

  • Emergency shelter services
  • Supportive housing for low income individuals and those with mental illness
  • Hospice services
  • Home Support Services to individuals living in the DTES with chronic healthcare challenges
  • Financial administration and guardianship services
