St. James' annual Small Victories luncheon that happened on October 22nd was a stunning success. Over 250 guests attended the event, raising over $75,000 that will go towards supporting social and healthcare services in the Downtown Eastside and beyond.

This year we recognized and presented awards to corporate supporters of the Society, who have made outstanding contributions to the community through their fundraising and volunteer efforts (White Paper Ltd., Marion Scott Gallery, Dominion Fairmile, Landsea Tours). As well, awards were presented to four Magee students and to Magee Secondary School Teachers and Staff for their part in raising $5,000 towards St. James' women's shelter through a "Youth in Philanthropy Initiative" program.

Thanks to a host of event sponsors (Centimark Roofing, Landsea Tours, Dominion Fairmile, Serial Vision, Heritage Office Furnishings, Stonebow Renovations, Tugboat Media, Lemongrass Media, Admiralt Investment Inc., Coinamatic, Horseshoe Press Inc., Ironhorse Productions, Clark's Audio Visual Services Ltd., Encore Electric Ltd., Richards Buell Sutton LLP, The Cleaning Solution, Sign Visions, White Paper Ltd., Samantha J. Walker Photography, and anonymous) funds donated by guests will go directly towards supporting St. James' programs.

We also saw the premiere of a new short film about women and children's homelessness in the Downtown Eastside and beyond. "Home" is available for viewing under "People - Videos". 

Every year, we serves over 800 women and children at our women and children's emergency shelters. Our staff are able to help over 330 of these individuals find permanent housing or treatment options. Thanks to the support we received from our donors, we can end homelessness, not just managing it.
