Public and Community Accountability
The accountability structures of not-for-profit societies in BC are an occasional topic of media and community discussion, especially as and when a particular organization, or the future of a neighbourhood like the Downtown Eastside, come under the public spotlight.
At St. James, we take the issues of accountability and public confidence very seriously. We are the recipients of significant public financing and private donations that are provided to support high quality services to vulnerable individuals.
As a registered society and charity, as well as an agency under contract to the provincial government, we are subject to significant oversight and review. We complete an externally conducted financial audit every year, and provide a great deal of information about our governance and services.
A summary of these processes are available on this website. For further information, or to register a concern or question, please contact Jonathan Oldman, Executive Director.
