"Stuff the Bus" is a charity event that collects donations from the public to literally ‘stuff a bus’ to the ceiling for Vancouver's emergency shelters and transitional housing. It will run in conjunction with Homelessness Action Week (10th - 16th October www.stophomelessness.ca). 'Stuff the Bus' will finish with a fundraising concert at Venue, Granville Street on October 21st.
‘Stuff the Bus’ will run from Oct 12-21, picking up donated items from households around the city and visiting numerous tourist attractions in and around Vancouver, where people can drop off their donations, including;
- Capilano Suspension Bridge
- Grouse Mountain
- Vancouver Aquarium
- Vancouver Art Gallery
- Tourism Vancouver
- Harbour Air Seaplanes
- BC Ferries
- Sewells Marina
- Capilano University
All donations will be delivered to St. James Community Service Society for its emergency housing programs.
'Stuff the Bus' will finish with a concert, presented by 99.3 the FOX and Landsea Tours & Adventures on Thursday October 21st at Venue, 881 Granville Street. The concert will feature 2009 Vancouver Fox Seeds Winners - Goodbye Beatdown; local, legendary Irish rock group - The Town Pants and the compelling singer/songwriter - David Blair. Tickets are on sale now $20 in advance, $22 at Door.
Kevin Pearce, President of Landsea Tours & Adventures is organizing the event and says, "This is the fourth year that we have organized ‘Stuff the Bus’ and it is going to be bigger and better than ever. This year, we are asking people to donate used clothes, bedding, towels and unopened toiletries - soaps and shampoos for example. You can visit one of the drop-off points or call me and I will arrange for the bus to come and collect from your home."
“Homelessness continues to be a huge problem in our city and we are committed to making a positive difference to the lives of homeless people. We are pleased to continue to support the work of St. James Community Service Society, which is reaching out to the most marginalized within our community, including those with mental health problems and addictions. Please help us by donating goods or attending the fundraising concert.”
Additional sponsors of the event are: FastSIGNS, BC Restaurant & Foodservices Association, VENUE and ClubZone.com
