At St. James Community Service Society "volunteers are one of our best resources"
St. James Community Service Society was established to offer aid and assistance to those who are in need and especially to those who are bypassed by the normal channels of charitable assistance.
One of the most tragic aspects in the lives of those who face challenges of homelessness and poverty but also deteriorating mental and physical health in our society is the devastating loneliness and social isolation they experience.
St. James Community Service Society need people who can commit to spending 3 hours a week volunteering in our programs.
Volunteers can provide:
• One to one companionship for residents
• Visiting and social interaction with residents
• Organizing arts and crafts activities for residents
• Assistance with organizing recreational activities
• Travel companions on trips with residents
• Assist residents in building their own social network
• Read and write letters for residents
• Assist residents with special requests
• Assist with organizing special events for residents
• Assist with office work and fundraising events
• Assist with gardening, baking and general housekeeping duties
• Assist with night vigils
• Assist with hospice programs with residents
All volunteers must be 19 years or older, have a successful criminal record check completed, reference checks and attend training sessions and orientation. For information or questions regarding volunteer opportunities please contact us at (604) 606-0301 or email volunteer@sjcss.com.
